The government is unlawfully invading the privacy of the American people. Bills and surveillance programs have been set in place to spy on the American people which is an invasion of privacy. Shortly after 9/11 the government passed a bill that was to help protect Americans from any further terrorists attacks. That bill was the Patriot Act short for “Providing Appropriate Tools Required to intercept and obstruct Terrorism Act”, this was the first of many bills passed which gave the U.S government freedom to use tools of surveillance to spy on Americans. The government then had the authority to monitor the actions of any Americans such as their phone and email communications, bank and credit records, and internet activity. The Patriot Act does not abide by the constitution because of the freedoms it gives the government, it allows the U.S to search through the information of innocent Americans without probable cause which is against the law. The problem lies in the principles of the Patriot Act, how the government has interpreted the bill, invasion of the American people’s privacy, and that the bill arguably breaches the fourth amendment of the constitution. The government supposedly passed bills like the Patriot Act to protect, but the way the bill is being interpreted it is just giving the government authority to spy on the everyday innocent Americans. The measures that the U.S government has put fourth such the Patriot Act and the Terrorist Surveillance Program only invade the privacy of American people and does not prevent terrorism. The worst part of all of this being done by the government was that the programs which were like the Terrorist Surveillance Program was released to the public, the government was unlawfully reviewing and searching the American people’s information and communications secretly. These had been going unknown for a span of around ten years
