There has been a recent rise in parents concerned for their kid’s safety due to technology, some parents have even started to track their kids with technology, But should parents be doing that? Parents should not be monitoring kids with technology. First, I’m going to show how monitoring kids with technology is harmful to relationships. Then, I’m going to show how tracking kids with technology is a breach of privacy and trust. And finally, I’ll explain why tracking kids is bad for their mental health and growth.

Monitoring kids can pit parent and child against each other and harm their relationship
According to some psychiatrists in source 1, “when kids are crowded, they tend to do things such as acting out.” This means that even if the kid who is being monitored is well-behaved they still might act out negatively. Imagine if you found out that your spouse or someone else close to you was tracking your every movement without your permission or knowledge, how would you feel? That behavior is also looked down upon by a lot of people, so why should kids be treated like that? Stated by source 3, research tells us that it is more effective to just ask kids then to just snoop on them. Not only would asking them instead of spying on them be more effective but it would also help build stronger trust between parents and child. Some parents and people might say “trust is earned, not given out” but here’s the thing. Not all children are like the one in the first source, most are well behaved, in fact the internet is a lot safer in this day and age so parents who are concerned about digital safety should “relax a little” as stated in source 2.
