Clifton Strengths is an assessment tool that helps individuals identify their strengths and talents. The tool measures 34 signature themes, which are organized into four domains. By identifying your top five signature themes, you can gain a deeper understanding of your personal strengths and learn how to maximize them to achieve your goals. My signature themes are empathy, relator, developer, deliberative, and adaptability. Empathy is about being able to sense the feelings of other people by imagining yourself in others' lives or situations.
The Clifton Strengths Assessment was built to help people get on the right path into the future that suits them best. The assessment helps people discover what they naturally strengthen, and develop these talents into strengths. Laura Peiter spoke on the four different categories your top five strengths can fall into, which were, “executing, influencing, relationship building, and strategic thinking” (2024). For me, I fell into relationship building, with my top strengths being empathy, futuristic, communication, activator, and woo. In this paper, I will be speaking on the two strengths I feel will best prepare me for my future, which also are the strengths that I see actively working in my life everyday.
The one big thing I learned going into my first year of college was that how much the professors do not really care if you pass or not. Even though there are some that do, there are also a lot that do not. With saying this I am getting at that the Central Minnesota Credit Union does not want to be that professor that does not care, they want to be the exact opposite and show everyone of their strength, service and to help it grow to be an even more prosperous community. By doing this it will leave a huge mark in our lives.
Looking at each individual strength, I am reminded of different aspects of my life where that strength is used. My first two of Futuristic and Context are very interrelated in my mind, and without question are two of my biggest strengths. It seems as though most of my time is spent either reflecting on past events or thinking about what is to come in the future. I examine what I and others have done in the past to see what worked and what failed. I then take that into account whenever I make future decisions.
An Analysis of StrengthsQuest Many an educational institution have struggled to find what works for all of their students. The book StrengthsQuest by Clifton & Anderson (2006) attempts to remedy that struggle by separating itself from the view that all students should be taught in the same manner, or that students need to be individually ‘fixed’ or left to fail. Inspired by the conclusion that students fail because of disillusionment and not lack of skills, Clifton & Anderson (2006) put forth the idea that those institutions should view each student as a separate entity, each with their own unique talents, and that institutions of academia should put first and foremost the talents of their students to help them develop their own set of skills and strengths.
Upon completion of the Strengths Finder survey, I learned I have five areas of strength (Clifton & Anderson & Schreiner, 2006). These strengths are; achiever, communication, arranger, positivity, and ideation. I must admit, before taking this survey there were doubts surrounding its accuracy. By nature, I am a sceptic of this type of personal inflection conducted by an outsourced company. Prior to taking it, I kept telling myself, there is no possible way that a simple survey can give me insight on my inner workings.
Are your strength or problem-focused? I considering myself a strength focus (strengths-bases approach), because the person or an organization is presented with a problem that need to be solve. Therefore, for strengths-based approaches or strengths-based approaches is the best method since it concentrates on the inherent strengths of individuals, families, groups, and organizations, deploying personal strengths to aid recovery and empowerment. To focus on health and well-being is to embrace an asset-based approach where the goal is to promote the positive (Toner, 2016).

Were you surprised by the strengths identified? Overall, I was not surprised by the strengths identified after completing the assessment. The five strengths identified included: achiever, learner, focus, restorative, and futuristic.
Nevertheless, it is the way that friction is approached that makes a difference. By applying my positive attitude and sense of finding a common ground among coworkers, it will enable me to apply this strength to my daily life. Lastly, the strength of achiever was a lesser theme for me compared to my other top strengths. I sometimes take on too many tasks and want to accomplish many things in order to make me feel good about myself. I am extremely committed to everything I do and influence others to succeed in what they do.
Vision and Goals The Strengths Based Leadership assessment identified myself as being responsible, someone who can relate and communicate well with others, futuristic and encouraging. My goals for myself change a lot, however my vision for the communities that I serve, is to be the person who accommodates each characteristic described by the Strengths based assessment. I aim to advocate for, support, encourage, and lead underserved populations. I currently offer emergency psychiatric services to patients struggling with mental health and substance dependence. Strengths: As a student one of my strengths is organization. I can say I can keep my school materials and notebooks organized in a way that I and others can comprehend.
