Vision and Goals
The Strengths Based Leadership assessment identified myself as being responsible, someone who can relate and communicate well with others, futuristic and encouraging. My goals for myself change a lot, however my vision for the communities that I serve, is to be the person who accommodates each characteristic described by the Strengths based assessment. I aim to advocate for, support, encourage, and lead underserved populations. I currently offer emergency psychiatric services to patients struggling with mental health and substance dependence. Obligations include lethality assessments, appropriate use of the DSM, consulting with Psychiatrists about patient disposition, answering a 24 hour hotline, and linkages to appropriate

As discussed above, I expressed my understanding of what is required for me to successfully become a certified Oral translator, medial social worker, and a culturally competent stress managing individual. I am aware of how each of these practices could benefit me as a social worker and the populations in which I serve, but before completing these assignments, I had put minimal thought into all the steps that I would need to fulfill these goals. For example, I would say to myself, I need to become certified translator and I would need to take certain courses. Now, after researching for this assignment, I’m aware of how many hours I need, and can actually start working on my hours ASAP, when we have deaf or hard of hearing PTs in the screening center. I work on my sign language at home, when I have the time, and that will help me with the skill to be able to practice or sit in on translating. I work closely with Medical nurse and doctors, as well as psychiatric nurses and doctors. This experience has given me the ability to learn what mindfulness practices works for me, in order for me to be able to continue to service my clients, without become too overwhelmed. There is still much for me to learn before I can actually obtain my MSW, but with my coursework and current experience, I feel that I will successfully complete my goals. I plan to obtain my MSW within 6 months, however study and take my licensing exam in about 3 months. Being as though I will need about one hundred hours to qualify for my knowledge test to become a translator I will give myself about 2 years to complete, however I would like to be certified within a year of receiving my LSW. I don’t have many long term goals, but I have been thinking about starting my own practice, within about 8 years from the time that I graduate with my masters. It’s overwhelming knowing that I have such high standards for myself, but I cannot wait until I am actually servicing deaf and hard of hearing individuals, the thought makes me extremely
