Trayvon Martin’s murder has created a new chapter in history, because the judge declared his murderer not guilty (“Who We Are”) As a result, protests have surfaced from California to New York. Other incidents like Trayvon Martin’s have also come to light. Some people believe that the police’s actions were justifiable. I believe, however, that the punishment should fit the crime. The Police Departments must change their procedures and properly punish those who break them. The police should not be above the law.
Police should have the ability and intelligence to protect and serve our communities without killing people - just as police do in England, Germany, Japan and other countries (“Limit Use Of Force”). According to “A Community Concern: Police Use of Deadly Force,” the police are the only agency in the government that is authorized to use deadly force to compel people to obey the law. However, police kill a lot of unarmed people. In 2014, the police killed at least 253 unarmed. In 2015, as many as 100 unarmed people have been killed by police (Quigley). Changing the current policies can restrict the police from using excessive force in everyday interactions with civilians (“Limit Use Of Force”). …show more content…

According to “Considering Police Body Cameras”, the increasing stimulation over body cameras highlights the human habit, in times of danger, to chose the easiest option to a difficult situation. The continuation of this habit among police officers has lead many citizens to their death. As a result, it has created internal turmoil within the nation. The topic of police policies needing to change is nothing new. The LAPD have taken many steps in order to change the excessive use of force by police officers, especially towards African Americans
