Lilly is driving through a residential area, excited to go to her grandmother’s house. She turns down the radio, because it’s a little too loud and may disrupt the people sleeping in nearby houses. As she looks back up, she realizes too late, that her car veered right. She’s thrown through the windshield, and slams onto the cement. She instantly dies from a head concussion. Lilly was not wearing her seat belt. As she hit the pole, she was thrown out the window because nothing was holding her inside the vehicle. If she had been wearing her seat belt, she would still be alive. Injured maybe, but alive. Having to wear a seat belt should be made a primary law. Many people do not wear seat belts. Especially if they are driving in a residential area, or are not driving very far. They think that because they are not driving far or because they are not driving fast, that it’s fine if they do not wear a seat belt. When in reality, people can get into a wreck anywhere. Along with the airbags, seatbelts are meant for protection. The airbags are most likely not going to protect somebody properly, if they are not wearing their seat belt. This is because, they need to be in a certain position when the airbags deploy, and the seat belt keeps them in the correct position. This applies to the driver, as well as any passenger in the vehicle. If a car were to roll, and somebody was not wearing a seatbelt, they would be thrown around in the vehicle. They would most likely hit somebody else in the vehicle, and could possibly injure or kill that person. Seat belts can also save a life outside of a vehicle. What if somebody flies out of the windshield, and lands in front of another moving vehicle? They would most likely swerve and wreck.
