A class of eighth grade students sit in their classroom, waiting to hear the absurd amount of homework that is about to get loaded on them. The light in the far corner of the room flickers on and off as the suspense rises. Then the teacher stands up from her desk and takes long strides over the chalkboard in the front of the room and picks up the skinny rod of white chalk. The teacher raises her hand with the chalk in it and writes the dreaded homework assignment on the board, the chalk screeching at every turn. The teacher shrieks to the class “ Pages 10-18 is the homework for tonight.” a wave of whining and sighing sweep through the classroom as the students think of how they won’t be able to attend their sports practices and games tonight. The amount of homework students get every night is way too much. Students have to focus so much on their academics that it is taking time away from thing that kids should be able to do and take part in such as sports and other activities.
