Example 1 i. Evidence: “She only took the time necessary to say the name. She looked for it in the shadows, she found it at first sight among the many, many easily confused names from this world and the other, and she nailed it to the wall with her well-aimed dart, like a butterfly with no will whose sentence has always been written. ‘Santiago Nasar,’ she said” (Marquez 47) ii. Analysis: The narrator uses vivid imagery of Angela’s name selection and of a helpless butterfly to depict the deceit used. The imagery used for her search of names creates an image of Angela carefully selecting Santiago’s name from a sinister place, describing it as “in the shadows” and “from this world and the other.” The image of the butterfly dictates, Santiago’s fate based on this decision. The “well-aimed dart” shows her specific choice in her selection, which in turn guaranteed the death of Santiago who, like the butterfly, has his fate determined by this deceitful choice. c. Example
