Imagine this: You are a 6 year old child, just getting home from school. You ask to see your brothers toy, and while fidgeting with it, you accidentally drop it. The toy falls from your hands and almost as soon as it hits the ground, you hear the familiar sound that no kid wants to hear.
“I’m telling mom and dad!”
You see your brother run off, and you know there are only two options; run away and never see your family again, or face the inevitable spanking that you know is coming. You walk inside, seeing your father approaching you with your brother standing behind him. You take a deep breath, and prepare for the worst. This is just one example of the many different types of physical discipline that parents can inflict on their kids. Physical discipline can be defined as an act intended to cause physical pain on a person in reaction to a negative action. When you hear the word discipline, some may first think of punishment. In reality, the word discipline comes from a system of teaching or instruction, called disciplinare. At first thought, I was very against physical discipline.
