In the 2010-2011 school year Noble collected almost $190,000 in discipline “fees” from detentions and behavior classes. A discipline policy is used to help kids be successful and for kids to follow the rules. While it is true that the reward system of discipline plan may work, the punishment discipline plan works because it improves test scores, teaches kids to follow the rules, and the punishments aren’t permanent.
The first reason is that the punishment policy improves test scores. First of all, in the article, “Pay Up!” in paragraph 4, it states, “The superintendent points to the network’s average ACT (test) score of 20.3.” This explains that the punishment policy works because it shows that they pay attention more so they learn more. The result is that the students don’t really have any fun in school because they have the punishments policy, but it helps because it means they can focus on their school work more. This proves that the punishment policy improves test scores because if the kids don’t talk to each other because they might get fined it helps them focus on their learning so that when it comes to tests they will do better.
