The death penalty was first used in colonial times the death penalty has had many struggles. It was not allowed because it was cruel and unusual punishment but then it was allowed again only in some forms like the lethal injection, the gas chamber, electrocution, hanging, and firing squad. Some crimes are so extreme that life in prison just is not punishment enough. Lisa Coleman was executed for murdering a 9 year old child. Lisa did not only murder him but she tortured him as well. He weighed 39 pounds he had more than 250 injuries his whole body was covered in bruises and injuries. Someone who enjoys murdering a 9 year old boy painfully and slowly deserves a bigger punishment than prison (Muhlhausen). Additionally “Some crimes are so inherently evil they demand strict penalties--up to and including death. Most americans recognize this principle as just”(Muhlhausen). People who commit evil crimes have opportunities to show mercy on their victim the crime they are committing is a choice. All choices have consequences. The death penalty allows some form of justice to take place for those people who commit evil crimes to innocent people. Therefore the death penalty should be legal it allows a bigger form of punishment to those whom have committed something to deserve
