"Imaging sitting at home when suddenly you hear that there’s been an act of terrorism. This makes you feel sad and pity for the victims. You decide to get on your phone to take your mind off of the terrorist act. When you get on your phone, you see a video of a kid who got cyberbullied. Seeing this devastated you even more. After seeing this you understand why the government has to monitor internet use. Finally, it makes sense.

Although a lot of people complain about the government looking at everything we do on the internet, not very people actually understand why they do it. They assume the government does it for their own gain, but what they don’t know is that the government does it to protect us. Without the government monitoring the internet or schools monitoring kids social media, then the story from before can become a lot more real.

However, I do not believe they should be able to do this. Although I don’t stand up for bullying of any kind, I still don’t think schools should be able to have access to kids social media accounts for a few reasons. First of all, cyberbullying takes place off of the school’s campus so the schools shouldn’t have the power to punish them because they are not at school, where the teachers have power over them. The other reason why I think schools should not have access to kids social media accounts is because these incidents almost always happen after school hours. If something is occuring off campus and after hours then why the school be able to decide your punishment? Instead of giving punishments to students for acts of cyberbullying, I believe that the school should contact the parent of the cyberbully and tell them what’s going
