Should smoking be banned in public places?

Smoking has become a norm in society today. Many people choose to smoke cigarettes on a daily basis. Although smoking has many risks to it many people still decide to smoke. People may smoke because they find it as a stress reliever or they might be addicted to the nicotine in cigarettes. Many restaurants and bars have banned smoking, which has caused much of their business to decrease. The banning of smoking has affected smokers, because it limits the places where they could smoke at. The real question is should smoking be allowed in public places or not? Smoking in public places does not just do harm to the smoker, but it could do harm to the people nearby. According to the centers for disease control and prevention, “second hand smoke is smoke that burns off from cigarettes which could be inhaled from people in the area” (Secondhand Smoke (SHS) Facts). The smoke that tobacco lets off has more than seven thousand chemicals that could cause cancer. It does not take too much exposure from smoke to take effect on one’s health. It could be as much as being in a room with someone smoking for under a minute, and a person can still be exposed to second hand smoke. Second hand smoke can be harmful to adults and children. According to the centers for disease control and prevention, kids can experience ear infections, asthma attacks more frequently, coughing, and pneumonia. Smoking also has risks
