The American Teen and Gay Bullying
Sexual orientation has been a debate for most of the late 20th and 21st centuries, with different people and organizations hampering different opinions about what are right or wrong sexual behaviors. Gay, lesbian and bisexual people have borne the brunt of society’s violence, ranging from being shunned, discriminated when in public places and social events, verbal violence as well as physical attacks. Schools have not been the smooth and friendly environment it should be, for those who are gay or are deemed by their peers to be gay. Owing to the fact that the American population vary widely in the acceptance of sexual orientation, it means that those who are gay are met with violence by many of our population. The situation is even worse because some are branded as gay, lesbian or bisexual whilst in the real sense they are not, and this leads to a lot of trauma, which in some cases culminates into suicide, especially

The speech was directed to teens struggling with sexual identity. He spoke at a council meeting for Fort Worth in which he was representing District 9 as a member. Burns urged the teens to withstand the adversities around them, which in a lot of cases are brought about by those who are close to them. Burns started his speech by discussing some of the teens who had taken their lives as a result of bullying in school, by classmates and older members of the school. He would mention the name of a teen, then emotionally describe what they went through, before committing suicide. A teary Burns tells the teens in his speech, “Give yourself a chance to see how much better life will be.” He then goes ahead and advises the teens that it would be even better if they move away from the household that does not embrace them and go find new friends who appreciate their orientation. That way, they would find life to be more
