Global Issues for Obesity As the world population is currently skyrocketing, the number of obese people has been increasing greatly. As a result, our society has reached to the point, where our global standards cannot fully sustain the number of different issues caused by obesity. Many human activities have been contributing to the unhealthy effect of obesity on consumers. As restaurants are opening up, people have had the desire to eat high-calorie foods, thus, gaining weight over time. The Obesity Society’s records show that “In 1980, 14% of the adult population of the USA was obese [and] by 2000, the figure reached 31%.” The same organization also recorded how “The consumption of calories increased from 1,542 per day for women in 1971 to 1,877 per day in 2004. Construction may take place to encourage citizens to stay active, such as increasing the number of sidewalks. Although, this solution is not very effective, since destinations are still far from homes, therefore, other means of transportation are still required. CDC suggests communities to include fruits and vegetables to replace vending machines with high-sugar drinks and snacks in workplaces and schools. Recreation centres and parks should also include more activities at a small cost, to provide more opportunities to stop the epidemic of obesity. Although, this will lead to less money for the economy. The Washington Times studies show that, “access to healthy foods like fruits and vegetables is limited to nonexistent in some areas of the country.” The government should try to make healthy food available to everyone. These are some solutions that may reduce future obesity rates, although they may come with a huge cost, even when the government has already spent so much
