Not many people are informed of the relationship the US shares with Iran however this letter will give you an insight into the opinion of Iranian citizens instead of their public image.
Iran and the US have had a difficult relationship in the past over 1-2 generations ago. There are still some iranians today that believe the US is still the “Great Satan” said by Ayatollah Khomeini.(Khamenei Handout) The word of the ayatollah is like the word of god and he clings to the actions of the past and the hatred of US. This hostile belief towards the US is because of the Shah who was an American puppet that mistreated the rights of the Iranian citizens. Some Iranians embrace the western influences and have forgiven the US action in the past. The Iranians were happy when the Iran government accepted the nuclear deal with the US now having access to the world and their country was beginning to modernize.(Facebook). The US and Iran government in the news and online create a false image of each other. The US creates an image that the Iranians are a radical group but its citizens are just like Americans who takes picture of food and selfies on Facebook. Some citizens are wary of westerners, blocking many western websites, when they visit while others are curious about the lives of the westerners because they enjoy and want to be like the rest of the world.(Gridlock 243) Around 68% of Iranian prefer better relationships with the United States. Iranians believe that “American citizen are good while their government is not good”, and that is the same for Iran. Every year 180,000 people leave Iran, having the biggest brain drain, to experience other cultures having sincere interest. (Summer in Tehran). The people feel that the government goes against Islam as a religion of passion, but the US sees Iran as a terrorist
