Since the start of the slasher genre, it seems that about all have the same storyline. A masked maniac stalking a group of clueless white adolescence friends. In the group you have the shy terrified final girl, the attractive blonde girl with two brain cells, the socially awkward nerd, ignorant jock and the goofy try hard friend. Seems that all slasher films have the same ending. Where the killer and the final girl are faced to faced and the killer reveals his face. He reveals that he only targeted her and her friends because of a past incident resulting in him wanting revenge. The film ends with the final girl defeating the maniac. The film Scream starts off with a mystery stalker man calling Casey who is home alone. The stalker tries to keep a conversation going with her but she shuts him down. Things escalate quickly when the stalker threatens to kill Casey if she doesn’t stay on the line with him. At this point, Casey is paranoid because she is aware the stalker is nearby. She obeys the command she is being told. Then Casey says she is “seconds away from calling the cops” but the stalker contradicts her and says the cops will never make it in time to the scene.Therefore she does not end up calling the cops. Doctor Wolfula here points out that she should not have listened to the stalker and should have gone and called the cops. He believes become of this decision it resulted in Casey dying. I can to an extent agree with him but on the other hand giving the circumstances Casey would have probably died either way. If she would have called the cops the stalker would have barged into the house and would have instantly killed her. Although killing off Casey (Drew Barrymore) was a brilliant idea.
