“Food is our passion! Yes, we grow some fantastic fruits and vegetables, but it's about more than that. It's about nourishing our bodies and delighting our souls. It's about creating a symphony of flavors. It's about sharing cultures through food. It's about...well we could go on and on.” This company Andrew and Williamson Produce has this passion that we all learned more about from a guest speaker we had in class. Her name was Maureen McGuire and she is one of the lean directors of the company. She is in charge of creating and proposing products to the board of directors in order to carry out those ideas with her team. She didn't go much into depth but what I got from her was that an intrapreneur has the freedom to start a new product or service in the established company but at the end of the day has less risk than an entrepreneur. According to investopedia, “An intrapreneur is an inside entrepreneur, or an entrepreneur within a large firm, who uses entrepreneurial skills without incurring the risks associated with those activities.” Meaning than one key difference between these two types of innovative occupations is that an entrepreneur envisions and establishes his/her business from start to finish willingly knowing all of the risks associated with it, compared to an intrapreneur who has a wider vision for the company helping solve big issues in the company by taking bigger risks knowing at the end of the day it doesn’t fully fall on him/her. According to inc.com, “The distinction between entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs can be seen as a difference in the level of focus.” This concept of intrapreneurship is fairly recent according to sources, and has been found to be crucial to a company's success because of the huge risk they take in order to fix important issues. Drucker was known as the leader of Management Philosophy and Effectiveness and one major contribution he put out to the world of business was the focus he put on the customers. According to sourcesofinsight.com, “The primary function of a business is to serve the customer and the primary goal of your business is to create customers.” This is why Drucker’s philosophy was so important because he stressed how important it was for the business to focus on marketing and innovation in order to attract the customers and get to know them. The customer is a very important part of the business because they are the ones that actually buy the product or service, so if you never spend time to get to know them then you will never attract new customers therefore the business won't succeed. This is the reason that we are ultimately in business because we are offering a service or product for our customers to pay for. This is important for the entrepreneur because when thinking about their business ideas and decide to execute one they will have to think innovatively. In order to do that they will have to “step in their customers shoes” to see how their business can become better for them. Most of the time the best ideas come from the customers since they are the ones that are hands on using the product or getting the service you sell, so getting to know the customer is really crucial to a business.
