World War II was an important event for many reasons, One reason includes the usage of photography and film. In current times, photography and film are seen everywhere and used for a variety of things, from movies to family photos in the house to advertisements for different stores. During WWII, photographs and film were used as well, and for similar reasons. Specifically, photography and film in WWII were useful for allied countries because the Allied Countries were able to gain information, civilians back home were benefited, and helped show the world the truth of what was happening.

As a result, millions of men from the United States of America had to step up to join the fight. Due to this large number of men joining to serve their country, the role of women has greatly changed. It was now their duty to fill in civilian and military jobs that were now empty (Horne). With the use of photography, powerful images of women filling in these roles were captured. This was a very important moment as it was the first time when women were doing these male-dominated jobs, These photos helped the allied countries by showing how women strength and inspired patriotism among their people. One example of an iconic image is titled Rosie the Riveter who was a symbol of American feminism (“Rosie the Riveter”). Photography and film also helped the allied countries because it led to integration within the community. Especially, this integration which was seen in America with the Tuskegee Airmen. A photo taken by Gabriel Benzur shows U.S. air cadets who were training for the air corps. These individuals photographed were the first ever black military aviators (Horne). Through this image, it helped with the integration of Black soldiers. At first, many thought that black soldiers were not able to fly planes and work with military aircraft. Through their roles and efforts in WWII, they showed that black soldiers were able to do these things.
