Physical Therapy Physical therapist are healthcare professionals who treat a variety of diseases and disabilities. The American Physical Therapy Association’s vision statement says, “Transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience.” Physical therapy not only rewards the patient, but also rewards the therapist personally by helping people overcome their disabilities. According to the Huffington Post, the best eight physical therapeutic remedies are manual therapy, ice, heat, ultrasound, low-level laser, traction, functional electrical stimulation, and exercise. A hands-on approach by stretching and massaging to any type of injury is manual therapy. Ice is used to constrict blood vessels to reduce and prevent pain for inflamed, swollen areas. To decrease pain and treat mobility, heat is applied to areas with tensions and muscle spasms.
