In the article “Die Trying”, Katie J.M. Baker points out the difficulties of being a rape victim in Alabama and nationwide. The article “Die Trying” talks about a student named Megan Rondini who attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa who accused T.J. Bunn Jr. of rape. The events that led to sexual assault happened in July 1, 2015 at night where Megan Rondini went to Innisfree Irish Pub with a couple of her sorority sisters and drank five cups of beer. After drinking the beer Megan Rondini blacked out and found herself in T.J. Bunn’s car with his friend going back to his house.
Ronald Cotton Eyewitness Misidentification The Ronald Cotton case is well known for the fact that misidentification happens when having a victim identifying a suspect and how detrimental this misidentification can be to someone. It is clear in many ways that identification is unreliable. Ronald Cotton was wrongfully convicted due to the fact that a witness had chosen him rather than the real perpetrator. This happened due to the fact that the victim, Jennifer Thompson Cannino, had an altered memory of the situation. But, within this case, there was also the issue that the victims felt as though their feelings and experiences were being dismissed, which did not help in getting the correct person held responsible.
In addition to the harrowing case of Ronald Cotton, the reliability of an eyewitness testimony was recently challenged with the incorrect conviction of Kash Register. While sitting in his parked Chevrolet in 1979, an elderly man named Jack Sasson was viciously robbed of his life when he was shot five times at close proximity (Bazelon). Brenda Anderson, a nineteen year old who occupied an apartment on the same street, informed police that she heard the rowdy sound of gunfire, and when she peered out her window, noticed an African-American man stumbling away from the scene, before turning back and firing further rounds (Bazelon). When Japan and India began to mechanize their cotton industries between the 1880s and 1930s, several similarities and differences surfaced. Both Japan and India’s cotton yarn productions began to increase rapidly, workers in both countries faced similar poor working conditions, and the transaction of workers going from rural to urban areas were protruding. However, both countries contained a difference in the type of workers in the cotton industry workforce as well as the displacement of skilled Indian workers as opposed to Japanese workers. After the War of 1812, America suffered from financial panic and the Union seemed to lack the ability to ebb and flow with disruption to order as exemplified by the lack of cooperation between all states. As cotton plantations thrived in the South, a different way of economy was produced through industry, paving a clear path to business building in the North. As shown in a graph showing the growth of trade and manufacturing, the North shows a vastly spreading industry but the South remains mostly disengaged (Document L). The importance was instead placed on agriculture, exemplified by Jefferson regarding inventions such as the cotton gin as gaining “considerable interest” for the “success...for family use” (Document M). When writing to Eli Whitney, Jefferson shows the curiosity in up and coming devices, but only those that may be worked by hands at home.

In the article, “Family of Man Cleared by DNA Still Seeks Justice,” Wade Goodwyn writes about the rape of Michele Mallin and the confession that sets free a wrongly convicted man. Timothy Cole, a student in Lubbock was arrested and convicted as the Texas Tech rapist based on the eyewitness account of one victim. On Sunday night, March 24th, 1985, Michele Mallin, a college sophomore at the time, needed to move her vehicle to a legal parking spot after forgetting to earlier that day. At around 10pm, after finishing moving her car, a man appeared asking her for jumper cables to fix his broke down car. Mallin recalls him pushing her back into her own car, threatening to kill her with a knife and chain-smoking the entire time during the attack.
The booming production of cotton in the south during the 19th century was a vast money maker and supplied for the Southern economy, however, it also caused many set backs. Cotton fueled the economy of the Southern states and arguably the economy of the Northern states as well, and also played a major role in the global economy of that time. Cotton indeed brought great wealth to the Southern states, but only the plantation owners benefitted from this wealth. The rest of the population was left poor, uneducated, and illiterate. Despite the wealth and power that cotton brought to the south, it also brought slavery and thus the Civil War which ultimately left the South weak and powerless.
The police arrested him for both rapes and placed him in a seven person lineup. Jennifer had little difficulty identifying him from the lineup, but the second rape victim identified a foil from the lineup. The police informed Jennifer that she had identified the same man from the lineup whose photo she had picked out from the photo array a few days earlier.4 At trial, the only physical evidence the prosecution produced to connect Ronald Cotton to the crime was the piece of foam found at the crime scene and that he owned a flashlight that resembled the one used by the rapist. Jennifer, however, was a "terrific witness.

According to The American Nation Beginnings to 1877, before the Industrial Revolution most of the Americans manufactured goods were imported from Britain, however due to the war of 1812, Britain blocked the United States from getting goods. The many factors that influenced the increased production of cotton from 1800-1860 were the resources that Americans had, the demand for cotton, and the technology that helped the production of cotton.
The Cotton Gin The cotton gin was a very important invention, created in the 1794, by Eli Whitney. It sped up the removal of seeds from cotton fibers. This invention was particularly important because it sped up the production of cotton.
The documentary The Hunting Ground by Kirby Dick was created specifically to spread awareness of the vast problem of sexual assault on college campuses and to try to show that the problem needs to be solved. The creator wanted those struggling with their sexual assault and the unfair treatment they were exposed to, as well as anyone who may have to go through sexual assault in the future, to know that the problem of sexual assault that universities tried to hide in the dark is finally being given the spotlight they deserve. The spark of this idea of the documentary was the many stories of survivors across the nation from many different universities, specifically the story of Annie and Andrea who helped other survivors get the justice they deserve.
Nonetheless, the Innocence Project, “At the victim’s house, Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) crime scene investigators collected pubic hairs from a bed sheet that had been on the couch at the time of the rape and discovered a piece of skin near the couch which was later determined to have come from a person’s hand or foot (Innocence Project, n.d.).” However, since no one ever did a rap kit on the victim the results were not used at the time of the incident. The police officer on the case created a sketch of the potential attacker from information collected from the victim’s memories. However, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) agent that was investigating him at the time White matched the sketch created. On Sept, 1979 white was arrested for the case.
The documentary called The Hunting Grounds, had multiple concepts that relate to sociology. Using a sociological perspective, it was very prevalent to see the ways college campuses use patriarchy and gender stratification to keep women who have been sexually assaulted on campus from disclosing information or even getting help about these issues. Through the discrimination against women at these gender institutions the women formed a Feminist movement to bring awareness and help to the victims on campuses all around the world and to stop the assaults from reoccurring. The Hunting Grounds is a documentary that reveals the untold stories of women on college campuses and how these women have fought to have their voice heard about sexual assault on campuses. Sexual assault and rape on campuses has always been a major problem for colleges all over the world yet very little has been done to protect the students.

Where it all first began in the 1700s, when Britain created new machines and factories, increasing the production of cotton to create cloth. Hence, the US was in high demand to obtain British factory plans to copy their mills and technology for the growth of American cotton and cloth industries.
