Political cartoon can be defined as an artwork or a comic strip containing a social or political message that typically relates to present actions or personalities. Personal cartoons are also known as editorial cartoons because it edits the message of the political parties or a person and reflect them in a funny bubble containing some message on it. Cartoonist use different devices to get their message. They use symbols, drawing of a person in order to exaggerate his character for comic effect. They also use irony words to convey a meaning of the cartoon. Similarly, they include some captions and labels to make sure that everything is clear to the viewers. Political cartoons can be very funny if we understand it as it drags our attention and interest on it and it also changes our view towards politics as well.
Political cartooning began with Benjamin Franklin. The first image as a political cartoon was created to emphasize the importance of unity. According to the article," Picture Power” by Dan Gilgoff , the role of the political cartoon is chronicled from the time of politician and inventor Benjamin Franklin in the 1800s through current day(2008). In the first cartoon, it is clearly seen that Trump is wearing a coat, pant and taking a brick on one of his hand and building a wall around himself. As Trump says he would build a massive wall, target millions of deportation,and deny legal status to anyone currently in the country illegally(2016). So, in the cartoon, news reporters reported that, "voters are sending Trumps back home" because of which he is finding a way to turn out of the wall that he build by himself. There is a bubble where Trump thinks about the ways to get out of the wall. The purpose of this political cartoon is to show that, Trump is building a wall around him inorder to protect himself
