The fire was fierce and were guided by the little kids screaming and coughing for help. When Ponyboy and Johnny found the kids they immediatley, one by one picked up the kids and threw them out of a opening in a window. A few minutes later Dally had joined them throwing Ponyboy first, then Johnny and just in time before the entire church had collapsed on them. Shortly after the ambulances came and took the three greasers quickly to the hospital. Ponyboy was the first to wake up, Dally had clubbed him very hard because his whole back was on
Dudley’s statements contained inconsistencies. Further, it led to the belief that Dudley was simply trying to exonerate himself as a witness when giving his statement against Moir. In addition to Dudley, another key witness Mr. Gordon’s statements also had inconsistencies. Gordon claimed that he had given a shovel to Moir prior to Acorn’s death. This may lead the jury to believe that Moir’s involvement in Acorn’s murder was planned and deliberate (para. 27).
James King is one of two people being tried for the murder of Alguinaldo Nesbitt, as well as the robbery of his drugstore. He is guilty of felony murder, and there is much evidence to support this verdict. Bobo Evans, another perpetrator of this crime, “places Mr. King in the drugstore with him on the 22nd of December. This testimony was backed up by Lorelle Henry” (Myers 256-257). This is significant because Henry is a reliable witness, and she is an elderly, retired librarian with no criminal activity.
On 12/02/16 I arrived at 6616 Noble Road in reference to a burglary call. Upon arrival I made contact with Gene Carmical. Mr. Carmical said sometime between 1230 hours and 1400 hours, this date, someone entered his residence through a window on the northeast corner of his residence and took several items including guns and gold and silver coins. Mr. Carmical showed me where entry was made into his residence. At this location, I observed where someone had broken the upper sash of a window in a screened-in patio which is connected to the residence at the den.
The “Goat Castle murder” was a robbery that turned into the murder of Jennie Merrill, a prominent plantation owner (pg 67-68). However, Cox’s view of
Gavin Lettau Mrs. Koshollek 01/26/2023 2nd Hour CAPP English In Cold Blood and its use of rhetorical devices Within the small town of Holcomb Kansas, despite its prowess for being a rural midwestern town known for the acres of peaceful fields and grazing animals This however had fallen into disarray upon the discovery of the current mortality of the Clutter family household. Truman Capote exemplifies the tale surrounding the crime, the investigation, and the eventual capture of the two ex-convicts responsible through the usage of mortifying imagery, descriptive environmental imagery, and theatrical foreshadowing to provide the audience a window of perspective into not only those who were responsible but also gives clarity to the victim's actions
The hunt for the Clutters’ killers, Dick Hickock and Perry Smith, mesmerized the nation and left a lasting impact in Kansas, drawing journalists from across the country to the rural outpost on the Kansas prairie (Huffington Post). An unremarkable New York Times article, which was considerably small and short, at approximately 300 words, grabbed viewers and drew the audience. The column reported the Clutter family murder in the tiny farm town of Holcomb, Kansas on the Great Plains. “Popular headlines surrounding the Clutter family murders were often along the lines of ‘Wealthy Farmer, 3 Of Family Slain” with a photo of Herb Clutter which left residents in shock and dismay that a horrific crime marred the serene and presumably safe landscapes

According to Stevenson, Monroe County Sheriff Tom Tate did not have much law enforcement experience. Now, four months into his term as sheriff, he faces a seemingly unsolvable murder and intense public pressure. But there was no evidence against Mr. McMillian—no evidence except that he was an African American man involved in an adulterous interracial affair which meant he was reckless and possibly dangerous, even if he had no prior criminal history and a good reputation. Maybe that was enough evidence. (30–31) We can tell how ridiculous and senseless it is that the local officers charged McMillian without any evidence.
This passage from William Faulkner's "Barn Burning" is written to establish the beginnings of the breakdown of the Snopes family - and of Sarty himself - through the destructive storm that is Abner Snopes. The difference in character between Sarty and his father being described in the paragraph shows the beginnings of a rift between father and son. Where Sarty is very expressive as he is "leaping" and "scrabbling" in a "red haze", Abner emotes in a very contained fashion. Though Abner is "harsh" and "cold" as he "jerk[s]" his son, the words are of a very smothered sort of anger. This clear opposition in temperament between the two men direct the reader towards and impending future division.
Not to mention, the story starts off in a courtroom because Abner Snopes burned down the property of Mr. Harris. Mr. Harris is landowner, who is left with a burned barn and no legal option. Snopes is advised to leave the country because the court can’t find enough evidence to sentence him. His son Sarty Snopes chooses to warn the owner. “Barn Burning” offers a helpful picture of how Faulkner sees the economics of the postbellum South, where the poor whites remain the underclass rivals of black sharecroppers (Pierce).
The story “A Jury of Her Peers” takes place at Minnie Wright farm in Iowa. Minnie is under investigation because she is a suspect for having killed her husband Mr. Wright. Two women accompany the man the sheriff wife and Martha Hales. When the group get to the farmhouse they go to the kitchen and Mr. Peters ask Hales to describe what he had saw at the farm house the previous day.
Johnny and Pony run into the burning church to save the kids. The fire burns Johnny badly and he becomes paralyzed from mid-back and below. Johnny knows he is going to die so he writes a letter and sticks it in the copy of Gone With The Wind that he gives to Pony. As Pony opens the book the letter falls out. Johnny writes, “It’s worth saving those kids.
Name: Ethan Lang Teacher: Sasha King Subject: ELA Date Completed: N/A "A jury verdict is just a guess—a well-intentioned guess, generally, but you simply cannot tell fact from fiction by taking a vote." This quote from William Landay, the author of two award-winning crime novels, shows how jury verdicts can be wild guesses that aren’t always accurate. In Reginald Rose's play 12 Angry Men, 12 jurors debate whether to convict a boy of first-degree murder. A few of the jurors start to show signs of aggression toward one another, and things get heated very quickly, partially because of the hot conditions in the room. The jurors can’t come to a unanimous decision, which leads them to examine how the boy and the witnesses might have seen or done the murder.
After the final judgement of the trial the city sheriff’s input about the trials outcome was, “Im not a very good man, sir, but I am sheriff of Maycomb County. Lived in this town all my life an I’m going on forty -three years old. Know everything that’s happened here since before I was born. There’s a black boy dead for no reason and the man responsible for its dead. Let the dead bury the dead, this time Mr. Finch let the dead bury the dead.”
