Section 2: Plot Summary The plot begins with the exposition when Scythe Lucifer shows up at the beginning of the book to give Scythe Brahms a chance to glean with honor. In the Scythedom Point of View, Scythe Lucifer is just a failed scythe apprentice and is deemed dangerous. While in reality, it is really showing that Scythe Lucifer is an intelligent, honorable scythe who doesn’t want corrupt scythes to ruin the humanity of the world. He wants scythes to glean with honor, not with a violation towards humanity. Scythe Anastasia is an honorable scythe that takes pride in her work as a scythe. The rising action that leads to the climax begins as Greyson Tolliver wakes up. Greyson Tolliver was rendered deadish when he saved Scythe Curie and Scythe Anastasia. When he is completely healed, a nurse tells him that he was turned into an unsavory. He was told that he needs to go on a publicar and go to the Nimbus Academy administration building. There were three people in the room: The dean, the chancellor of the academy, and another administrator. The chancellor asks Greyson if he knows how much trouble he brought to the academy and himself. Greyson knows that he is going to get permanently expelled from the academy. The chancellor thinks that Greyson Tolliver was involved in the plot to kill the scythes. Greyson was completely caught off guard with the accusation. But he composes himself and tells them part of the truth. He tells them that he had heard some agents that were talking about how it was a shame that they had to ignore it and couldn’t warn Scythe Curie.
