Julius Caesar was a famous leader of the roman empire with a lot of power. However, the senate was giving Pompey benefits, and refusing to give the same to caesar. This angered caesar, so he broke the law forbidding a general without imperium to cross the river rubicon. Many texts describe this event. Two include Plutarch's "life of caesar" and Suetonius's "life of caesar". It is difficult to piece together what really happened. because the two are very different. Both versions include caesar taking a time to reflect before the river. however what happens after is vastly different. Plutarch's version is more rooted in reality. It details Caesar consulting his comrade Pollio as they weigh out the pros and cons. Eventually, caesar decides
