Podcast #16 This podcast is about Ken, a man who inherited his father’s business, but became happy and wanted to sell the store. He had two bidders, one who offered $5,000 more than the other. At the beginning, Ken planned on selling the store to the higher bidder because he wanted the most money. After deciding this, he overheard the bidder and his partner saying that they were going to take advantage of the lower-income people in the neighborhood (the man used derogatory terms to describe them). These people would be taken advantage of, treated poorly, and essentially have no say about their treatment. A public relations professional’s obligation to the people would be to apologize for the mistreatment and ensure them that it would be stopped immediately. In addition, it would most likely be beneficial for public relations specialists to run a promotion or offer customers incentives to regain their trust and service. The businessmen would be affected if they were to acquire the business because eventually the consumers would figure out that they were being taken advantage of and boycott the business. The businessmen would most likely be negatively talked about throughout the area and would lose business if evidence of the mistreatment is spread across other towns, to other people, and even the news. In this case, I think public relations specialists should reassure the businessmen that as long as they get their act together and do their business ethically, that they have the potential to bring their business back up again. They should advise the businessmen to publicly apologize for their actions and then enact new policies in which all customers are treated
