Prima-donnas are individuals that believe the rules do not apply to themselves, have a negative impact on the company and other employees (Supervising, 2013, p. 1). It is important to treat these individuals with respect, while also giving recommendations on how they can be a “team player.” When dealing with an employee that is egotistical, it is important to be in constant contact so there is no miss communication. Employees that think highly of themselves want to be a part of large projects to back up their opinions about who they are. Employers should entertain and test the idea to see if the employee carries out the duties that are needed to be done in a certain project. Also, it would be beneficial for the company to place that individual in small groups where he can work and learn how to work with other people. Additionally, employers should spot the clues of an egotistical person during an interview so that there is no conflict within a company. Some examples of social undermining are blackmail and excluding someone from group projects within the company.
