"Poet X" is a book written by Elizabeth Acevedo that's about a girl named Xiomara. Xiomara lives in Harlem, New York, and her family is from the Dominican Republic. She likes writing poems and starts to use poetry to express herself and feel stronger. Xiomara is a teenager who's trying to figure out where she fits in the world. She believes in God, but sometimes her beliefs clash with what she wants to do. Her parents have some traditional ideas, which sometimes make it hard for Xiomara to be herself and do what she wants. Poet X was a great book. Xiomara is a great, strong, and dynamic character throughout the story. The tension and drama of the story are caught in this poem, whose stanzas bring everything to a head. A verbal fight between Xiomara and Mami is the poem's main conflict, reflecting the larger tensions that have been building throughout the book. I found a powerful line from this book: "Mami is sitting on the edge of my bed with my journal cradled between her hands” (P 300 Line 5). I felt that this was a powerful line in this poem because this was X’s biggest fear throughout the whole book. For her mom to find her book and see what is inside of the book. The title reflects what’s happening in the chapter because the chapter is called Burn and in the chapter the mother is burning the poetry book. As the tension gradually changes and Xiomara and Mami reach a place of understanding and forgiveness, the aftermath of this confrontation also prepares the ground for the story's eventual resolution. As a result, "Burn" is a pivotal moment in the story, representing the culmination of the central conflict and the turning point toward the story's
