The biggest threat to polar bears is global temperatures rising. They rely on sea ice to catch prey, to migrate, to procreate, and to rest. They are currently endangered and scientists have discovered that if global temperatures do not decrease, polar bears will go extinct. Due to these rising temperatures, polar bears are struggling to cope with these new changes in their environment because they are so ice-dependent. Scientists are trying to save the last of the ice because this is how they hunt for seals. Polar bears can swim; however, with less ice they have to swim long distances and many polar bears are drowning and losing significant body fat from lack of food.
