Police brutality is an extreme form of police misconduct and is a civil rights violation. Or in other words police being hateful and racist to African Americans and does not follow the equal rights they are supposed to by law. Police Brutality started very early such as in 1877 and 1894. How I look at the cause of police brutality is poor police training, racist police officers or governments enacting hard on crime policies. The consequence for the police officers who perform police brutality on somebody is not nearly as bad as the person they perform it on. They may lose their job or get laid off their job for a while but half of them will never touch jail bars for the crimes they’ve done. The start of police brutality mainly starts at racial profiling. Racial profiling is the use of your ethnicity as grounds for suspecting someone of having committed a crime or committing an offense. An example of racial profiling is lets say there is a white person and an African American person but they found weed in a car both of them are riding in, the police officer is just going to frame it on the African American. African Americans point of view on racial profiling is they think it is very wrong. According to theguardian.com “more than 90% of African Americans say they have been racially profiled”. This shows us that it happens to almost every African American so of course they are going to think racial profiling is wrong. Physical brutality involves the use of excessive force, such as beatings, shootings, and tasing, to subdue or control a suspect. Verbal abuse includes the use of foul language and intimidation tactics to coerce individuals into compliance. Racial profiling like I stated in the pervious paragraph coerce individuals into compliance. Racial profiling like I stated in the pervious paragraph involves the targeting of individuals based on their race, ethnicity or nationality, rather than their behavior or actions. Sexual assault includes any unwanted physical contact, such as groping or forced sexual intercourse. George Floyd death is apart of one of these types of police brutality. The killing of George Floyd in May 2020 by Minneapolis police officers sparked protests across the United States and around the world. Floyd, a black man died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes during an arrest. The incident was captured on video which it showed Flyod repeatedly stating that he could not breathe. While them capturing it on video and letting the world see it that plays a big role in social media. Half the time a lot of people don’t watch the news they are always on social media, I know teenagers people my age don’t watch the news they are always on their phone so therefore everything we see about police brutality is passed
