Police discretion refers to the authority given to police officers to make decisions based on their own judgment when enforcing the law. This can include decisions about whether or not to arrest someone, what charges to file, and how to handle a particular situation. Police officers are expected to use their discretion in a responsible and fair manner, taking into account the circumstances of each case and the relevant laws and policies.Police discrets still has rules to be followed prior to making an arrest. The 5 levels of force have to still be followed but police officers are not allowed to overdo the force. Police officers have to look out for the person underage, their race, gender, and on a person's disability. Police discretion is not about hurting someone but it is able to carefully calm a person or make an arrestment towards a person. The best discretion to make with an under age person is to contact the parents and let the parents take control on what they feel is the best for their child. If a female needs to be arrested and it's a male it's the male officer will need to think harder on the discretion that he is about to make on this arrestment. If not and that male handles the person without care then it will be issued towards that officer. A person with a disability will need to have a wise discretion made towards them. If the person gets involved in a traffic stop and argues with the police officer most likely you will get issued a ticket or fine. If the person gives the officer the utmost respect, stay calm, talk to the officer with respect the officer may have sympathy and will give you a warning. Police discret also has a lot to do with how the person interacts with them. People should respect police officers and officers shouldnt feel they have more authority over people and think they should be able to talk to them in any kind of way. With respect between both there will be a less likely change for the police to make a good
