I agree that officers have a stressful and demanding job. I think that the police needs to know how the community and the board sees them. Sometimes the truth hurts and in this case it may but they need to know. I think your idea on having officers at community events is a great idea. Showing that the officers care makes the community respect their authority more.

Forrest were charged with theft of federal government property, conspiracy against rights and deprivation of rights under color of the law. The Kansas City police officer were caught by FBI (Federal bureau of Investigation). The type of situation always makes people wonder what would make these people want to do something like this? Why would the officers discarded their commitment to the city to protect and serve as they swore to do so?
I had the privilege to interview Ed Locklear who is employed at the Pembroke Police Department where he serves as the Assistant Chief and Captain of the department. Ed Locklear has 19 years of experience, and says he truly enjoys his job. He has been with the Pembroke agency for 3 years now, and before that he worked at the campus of UNC Pembroke. His job duties are usually to help the Chief with day to day operations, such as training for some of the other men at the agency, ordering equipment that they may need, responding to calls, and patrolling the area every now and then. His typical day as the Captain is patrolling, checking out the area to make sure nothing bad is happening, and business walk throughs to make sure everything is running smoothly and no one is causing any trouble.
There is a saying in the Oklahoma City Police academy, “bring everything, everyday.” This statement is a lesson to the recruits to make sure they have everything. Because you never know what you are going to need, like black cross trainers, which is what I did not bring. I failed when it came to following through on the statement of “bring everything, everyday.” I did not bring my cross trainers, honestly because I did not think we would need them.

I would like to go the the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy because it would train me to become a police officer. The location of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy is P.O Box 313 on 5402 Sugar Grove Road in Plainfield, Indiana. There are many things to do around the academy. So at the end of the day when students don’t have anything else to do they can roam the city and have some fun and because they do not serve dinner there is a wide variety of restaurants that the students can eat at. There are many buildings at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

Due to the nature of their job, police officers are first responders to crises. They see things that normal people are not meant to see. People depend on officers to help them through some of the worst moments of their lives. Officers do not need a degree in counseling or a license to offer support to people going through a crisis or a traumatic incident. The most important tips for police officers is to 1) stop and ask yourself "how would I feel if this were happening to me?", 2) Communicate empathy, and 3) ask the person "what are you going to do if we cannot help you?".
In the interview with Officer Richard Bucklin, I asked him questions regarding his experiences as a police officer, the highs and lows of being a police officer, his opinions about recent controversial police topics and the challenges he faces everyday. All of his answers were very interesting and informational. I learned a lot when interviewing Officer Bucklin. I started off by asking Officer Bucklin how he got started in his field of work? Officer Bucklin responded saying that he needed a steady job that had a weekly pay.

In order to be effective in the job, a policeman should possess superb communication skills, extra-ordinary courage, excellent judgement, empathy, and a high degree of professionalism, to name a few. Choosing this career in law enforcement can be a quite challenging yet rewarding.
