In this news article Blow, 2016 has discussed some major issues about the men of color being killed by the police. Blow discusses the riots and protesting which come along with the killing of innocent men by the police. Blow raises a point about how we are no longer living in a society where we blindly accepted what the media informed us about and rather now we are living in a society where there are visual proof. He talks about how the media has portrayed black people and the kinds of choices they are forced to make. Blow makes an excellent point on how poor choices made in a bad environment have worse consequences than those who live in well settled communities. It keeps contact directly with the city’s population. It is a responsibility of the social workers to remind the public of the issues concerning the population. Whether it has to do with poverty, unemployment, discrimination or any social injustices happening in a society. It is the duty of a social worker to protect any individuals who suffer any sort of bias, discrimination or abuse of human rights and police violence in one of them. I feel as though there is not much being done for the victims of the police violence. It is not given much attention because it is a matter of a minority population and that is why it is being ignored. People are demanding answers about why these sad incidents are taking places even after the videos have shown proof about the victim’s innocence in most cases. In the news they also discuss some of the major issues could be related to the law and order and they believe racism is found there instead of the police. They feel that racism is extremely held by people who make policy and pass these laws. Non-white defendants are arrested more often, face heavier charges, and receive harsher penalties. It is only because police, DAs and judges are biased. And because they are aware that poor offenders have shortage of resources for their defense. There is a lot of white privilege involved in this.
