Many models have been created within health policy to illustrate the development and the act of policy. There are two models that were created to demonstrate the policy-making process. One of these models is the Longest Model. According to O’Grady (2016), there are three distinct phases that are seen within the policy-making process: policy formulation, policy implementation, and policy modification. In a simpler sense, problems are set out to create an overall policy design. After these problems are set out, rules are made and then put into law by the government. The last unit within this process is the feedback phase that allows for modifications and updates to be made within that specific policy. Another model that illustrates policy development is the Kindon Model. Kindon’s Model is also referred to as the Policy Streams Model. There are three different streams, or situations, that intertwine together to great a singular stream: the problem stream, the policy stream, and the political stream (Cairney & Jones, 2016). Essentially, a problem must exist in order for a policymaker to focus on it. After the problem comes about, goals are then set and created by various political parties within the policy-making process. Once this is all in place, the situation must then be placed at a high importance, which completes the stream to ensure there is a proper span of time allotted for the policy to be created and for progression to be completed.
