The kkk was flourished in the 1920s because in the 1920s was the time or the renaissance took place and began being popular to move out all of the African Americans because they thought they were beginning to be intellectual. The kkk believed that America was only a home to white christians and that all non caucasian people did not belong in the USA so the kkk members were 100 percent white and christian. The kkk burned barns, houses, and schools that only black people were allowed to go to, and beat black people. The kkk used photos, posters, and videos as propaganda.
To begin, the Klu Klux Klan is an organization whose purpose is to terrorize people of color. Dressed in all white, their identities are hidden as they attack in the dead of night. The KKK is founded by a group of confederate veterans in 1865, and their goal was to end Reconstruction. The Klan only recruited members who were male, white, and not Jew. Former Confederate Nathaniel Bedford Forrest tried to stop the organization for, “...the Klan’s violent tactics grew too extreme” (Source 1).

It was created right after the Civil War by six Confederate Army veterans. Not only had the South just suffered their most humiliating military loss, but they also lost the institution of slavery, money, government power and beloved family members. As a result of their loss in the Civil War and the emancipation of their slaves, the Southern white man felt great embarrassment and humiliation. Though he could not preserve the institution of slavery, he now felt an obligation to preserve and reassert white supremacy.
The Ku Klux Klan first emerged in Pulaski, Tennessee following the Civil War. As we know today, the mere mention of the Klan triggers fear as the KKK is known for its various tactics of violence that came in the form if lynchings, murders, and mutilations. Following their emergence, the KKK were quickly symbolized and portrayed as the protectors of the South, following the defeat of the Southern states in the Civil War and the beginning of the period of Reconstruction by the federal government (Gurr, 1989, p. 132). During the 1920s, the KKK achieved its greatest political success and growth outside of the South. During this period, the membership of the Klan heavily expanded to the states of Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Oregon, to which the KKK obtained two to two and one-half million members at its apex.

The KKK got its name from the Greek word Kuklos which means circle (Klu Klux Klan in the Reconstruction Era). The KKK was formed after the federal government withdrew from the south and the Jim crow Laws were put into place (Southern Poverty Law Center). The KKK had a primary goal was to defeat the Republican Party and keep blacks from gaining rights a freedom. The Northerners were disgusted by the KKK’s violence. Therefore, they gave their support towards the 15th amendment which gave all black men the right to vote and the First Reconstruction Act of 1867 (American Experience).
Another conflicting issues happened in the 1920’s were the racial conflict between the Ku Klux Klan and the blacks. Clashes always happened between Ku Klux Klan and blacks in America history and it was not an exception in the 1920’s. At that time, a new Ku Klux Klan, which was also pro-White Anglo Saxon Protestant, was formed and it was a racist group that targeted on foreigners, Catholicism, blacks, Jewish, Communist and etc. Among the groups that Ku Klux Klan targeted, the blacks were attacked the most.
