In the 1920’s, the economy was booming, and businesses were earning significant profits.
There were many factors that cause to change the American society. In 1920s the American economy began to become strong and the automobile introduced a new way of life to America and pushed America forward. In addition, the American people enjoyed the highest standard of living and they were able to afford luxury items. The motor car industry was the new form industry and it used the method of mass production and assembly line. Henry Ford was a pioneer who produced a car for ordinary family and manufactured the first Model T and reduced the prices by mass production.
In 1920 Canada took a huge step in getting control over its own affairs. In 1921 Canada’s new Prime Minister, Mackenzie King wanted to have canadian autonomy and the next 10 years gave him many opportunities. In 1922 Britain got involved in a conflict with Turkey and asked Canada to help if war broke out but, the Prime Minister said that Canada is it’s own country and won’t be forced by Britain to do anything anymore. Soon in 1920’s and 1930’s Canada became more isolationist as Canada tried to stay out of political affairs with other countries.
The roaring twenties and the dirty thirties were an extremely versatile period for Canada based on economy. Many turning points during this period helped develop Canada for example the relief camps. When the Great Depression began, many migrant workers lost their jobs and traveled across the country (‘riding the rods’) leaving their family because of the financial stress to find work. Many people viewed these unemployed men as dangerous people to the peace and safety of their communities. Due to this, Prime Minister R.B. Bennett developed a solution.
NEW NAME FOR THE DECADE The new name for the 1920’s would be “Progressive Decade” because this period demonstrated the advancements made for Canadian citizens. The ‘20s had shown the progress of economics, and the expansion of opportunities for workers and farms throughout the nation. While it failed to eliminate the racial societal views of many Canadians, it expressed a change in inclusivity with the new and notorious additions of Black Canadians in the entertainment industry. Thus the subtle improvements made during the decade, establishes the progressive acts of Canadians in the 1920s.
The 1920s, also known as the “Roaring Twenties”, was an exhilarating time full of significant social, economic, and political change. For most Americans, it was full of the prosperity and peace that followed World War I. Middle-class life was full of leisure and class. For others, this time period was filled with hardships and challenges. Many immigrants and African-Americans faced discrimination and segregation from the rest of the United States. One notable, positive aspect of the 1920s was its booming economy.
During the 1920’s Canada’s economy prospered, since many countries recovering from the horrors and especially damages of the war, required Canadian products. Canada’s abundance in resources such as pulp, forestry, wheat and mining greatly contributed to Europe’s recovery as well as the Canadian economy. Throughout this decade, many products and resources became more available such as cars due to mass production techniques developed to meet the product demand. For instance, the vehicle ownership rate in Canada increased from 300 000 in 1918 to 1.9 million by 1929.
The introduction of new technologies such as automobiles, radio, movies, and electricity improved the way of life in Canada. The automobile, in particular, transformed transportation methods, enabling people to travel faster and more efficiently. Television and radio programming allowed Canadians to access information and entertainment from every corner of the country, bringing people closer together than ever before. The social advancements that took place in the Roaring Twenties transformed the culture and lifestyle of Canadians. With greater employment opportunities and higher wages, people in Canada began to enjoy their leisure time, and these included the flourishing of nightlife and the cultural scene.
The United States has undergone many innovations and events during the 20th century. The U.S. became a growing economic powerhouse has technology and innovation enhanced and resulted in improvements to everyday life due to the changes made after World War I and by Franklin Roosevelt during his presidency. After this postwar era, the U.S. entered one of its most productive decades in history. Known as the “Roaring Twenties,” change in social, economic, political, and cultural aspects gave the U.S. a time of prosperity. However, this prosperity would only last for a little as the Stock Market Crash of 1929 would bring hardships back to the people.
Applying the characterization of “roaring” to explain the 1920s in Canada would be deceptive. The decade of the 1920s contains events and actions that directly represent its disastrous ways. Several sectors of the economy lagged behind due to natural disasters, terrorism and immigration policies. The economic and social divisions between regions and cultures became more evident than throughout the war years. Several components and stories were hidden by the decade 's accomplishments.
Although certain events caused regression in society such as restrictive immigration policies like the Chinese Immigration Act, the years of 1918-1939 were a period of progress in Canada as there were permanent changes. These changes advanced society, such as developing medicine and health science, women getting recognition in society, and several transportation and communication technological advances. The developments that were made during this time still impact our society today. When Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier stated, “As the 19th century was that of the United States, so I think the 20th century shall be filled by Canada”, the decades that followed provided his statement to be true as Canada became an independent and strong nation. The battlefields in World War One were a defining moment for Canada as their forces fought as one nation for the first time, instead of under British Command. Also, at the end of the war, Canada was recognized at the Peace Conference and signed the Treaty of Versailles as an independent country. The 1920s was the beginning of a new life for everyone in America, new things people never would have imagined to use in the past were now accessible. Years before,most people used railroads and wagons to get places. Not only that but, society was split between the north and south. Revolving labor, people usually farmed and owned property, but this would soon change. The 1920s came with unexpected turning points, new technological developments, social behavior change, and economic oppurtunities.
Secured attachment is extremely important in the developmental stages of an infant. Secure attachment is when an infant feels distressed when they are separated from their caregivers and feels happy when their caregiver returns. Research from this article suggests that, when an infant does not receive the comfort they need from their caregiver for secure attachments, it can have a negative impact on their behaviour later on in their childhood and throughout life. Infants who have secured attachments tend to develop stronger self-esteem as they grow older, they also tend to be more independent and successful in socialising. Those children are also less likely to experience less depression and anxiety.
