Political Socialization Essay I was raised in Altamonte Springs by my grandfather who lived in my parents’ home. My parents spent most of my childhood working hard to my brother and I could have a better life than they did. My ideologies come from my family, first and foremost. Raising me the way they did made me get a sense that not everyone is treated equally and that hard work sometimes isn’t enough. Next, my friends and their families have taught me argumentative side of politics and how to bring up a valid argument. Finally, who I am and what I was born with is the last deciding factor on how I decided who I was politically. My parents were my main reason for deciding to mostly lean to the liberal side of the political spectrum. I grew up with them away at work from morning until night. I knew that they were working for my brother and I, to accomplish greater thing than they did. They were immigrants to this country; my father moved here in ’86 and he scraped money together until he could bring her and my brother over in ’89. I’m slightly inclined to agree with its decision that I’m a Unitarian Universalist. It matches me in my belief of no incarnations and taking certain religious principles symbolically (i.e. heaven, hell, reincarnation.) The issue I have with this description is that it’s actually describing a wide swath of people. It repeatedly says in every category “very diverse beliefs.” For example in the section for “after death” it says that most believe that heaven and hell are not places but are symbolic (which is what I believe) but goes on to say other things that contradict one another such as some believe in reincarnation or that heaven and hell are states of consciousness.
