Politics and Power play a huge role in this documentary and how it has shaped the United States approach towards the african americans. The U.S. government could of done more to help the african americans with racial inequality. They passed laws that didn’t truly help them, if anything, it worsen the chaos in their lives. The 13th Amendment was passed in 1865 which was proposed by Abraham Lincoln. African Americans believed that was the end of racism but it continued to increase by the years. In the documentary, it discusses about the cruelty that african americans faced when they were slaves. They were beaten and killed just because they did something small that wasn’t right. This was allowed by the authority, they would do it too. This still happens today, police are being cruel to african americans, they have killed so many but yet they’re not being punished. They weren’t allowed to in the same place with white people, they were being segregated. This made african americans take a step backward, they were trying their hardest to gain their rights and equality throughout the United States. This made happen in the Southern where is known to be more racist towards black people. They didn’t want black people to succeed and maybe take their places, they feared of that so they made sure they didn’t have anything to succeed. The KKK was a group of white people who despised black people and believed they had the right to do whatever they want with black people. They killed and beaten many black people, in Birth of a Nation, it shows the brutality that they did towards black people.
