Did you know researchers have found that children on the verge of placement into foster homes tend to have a better outcome when they are allowed to stay with their families; especially true for older children. This is researched proof that ponyboy is better off staying with his family, then put in the system. He would be better off with Darry because he could have a better chance of a better outcome than in foster care. Darry says “you're not going to drop out. Listen, with your brains and grades you could get a scholarship and we could put you through college.” This shows that ponyboy has a good influence that cares for him. Ponyboy is better off with the Darry than in the system. The system side might differ because they don't agree with Darry's parenting. Ponyboy should be able to stay with his family as his own decision. “Kids who stayed with their families were less likely to become juvenile delinquent or teen mothers and more likely to hold jobs as Young adults.” Staying with his family is the best life choice for him so if he stays he can have a good chance of staying out of trouble. At Tucollaborative.org it states “Fostercare is known to produce poor social outcomes, such as high delinquency rates, high teen birth rates, and lower earnings.” Ponyboy isn't tough and isn't a delinquent but he can be if I put in the system. The system can make Ponyboy make bad decisions, because of the pressure on him being forced to stay. Kids that have a choice to be with their family and preferred to be with their family should be able to stay and can benefit
