Music from the 1920’s to 60’s
The history of popular music from the 1920s through the 1960s is a beautiful story of the evolution of American culture, society, and politics. This period of time saw the emergence of new musical styles and genres such as blues, jazz, rock and roll and etc. This essay will explore the musical, political, and societal characteristics of each decade. It also incorporates musical examples to demonstrate changes in many diverse musical styles.
In the 1920s, Jazz music emerged as one of the dominant musical styles of the time, with artists such as Louis Armstrong, Red Hot Peppers and Duke Ellington paving the way for the genre's popularity. The beginning of jazz music was …show more content…

Rock and roll music is a combination of African American rhythm and blues and country music. This represented a significant departure from the more traditional musical styles of the time. There were some big artists in this time such as Big Joe Turner, Bill Haley and His Comets, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and etc. Rock and Roll was very appealing to the younger generation because of the upbeat tempo and fast paced music. The emergence of rock and roll music also reflected the social and political changes of the time, as there was growing sense of rebellion among young people led to a greater emphasis on individualism and freedom. Not only that but desegregation was a signifiant aprt of the 1950’s. One of the most famous cases in the time was Ferguson and Brown v. The Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas. In this case they finally deemed that segregation was unconstitutional. According to an article, “the desegregation of public spaces did not occur overnight. Protests and riots were common, and resistance was intense”. In conclusion, the 1950’s was the birth of a world changing genre along with a huge socially and politial
