I worked collectively in a group of three students who all attend my school. They were Chloe Hood, Anara Watson and myself. The groups were randomly selected during class time; however, I knew these students well prior to beginning this task. Our group originally wanted our topic question to be based on gay and lesbian rights, however this clashed with a pre-planned assignment topic. Together we decided to investigate into an issue relevant to today's generation- that is, the impacts popular music lyrics has on youth. The issue of music that glorifies or promotes violence has many implications that our research highlighted. We identified that music can have a profound effect on the mind, spirit and the behaviour of individuals, also finding that adolescence spend the most time listening to music. Therefore, our group decided it would be beneficial if we focused on educating youth in general; however, we came to an agreement to focus on young woman, so we could analyse music that glorifies rape and abuse. I researched into the Australian laws and found that many of the song lyrics breached sex discrimination and sexual harassment laws. To help my group comprehend the relevance of these law, I wrote a definition for each one. I then began to analyse the lyrics, to ensure they somehow breached these laws. In doing so, I was able to remove the irrelevant songs (ensuring other group members agreed). Our group worked well together, gathering information to then be scripted. At the end of our presentation we clarified that many music companies breach these laws, however they receive no penalties for doing so (evidence can be found in our script). We presented to a class of year twelves but hope to later present to a mature group of year eleven
