Throughout history, violence has played a major role in our society and has been consistent in every generation. Constantly, we are hearing about violence through the media and for some people, we are witnessing the violence firsthand. Violence can be defined as the intentional use of physical force or power, vulnerable or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a community. Violence can end up in or incorporates a high chance leading to injury, death, psychological trauma, and deprivation. There are many different reasons people commit violent acts, an example of this can be self defense or anger.
Although oppression is still apparent there has been many opportunities to succeed for example WW1. The war gave new opportunities to minorities, allowing them to serve and receive benefits such as the G.I. Bill in return for their service. This new opportunity gave a sense of hope and patriotism to minorities. Coming with our human nature we always want more and are never satisfied. It sparked a sense of ethnic pride which started the civil rights movement in which minorities wanted equal rights for all.
Violence is unacceptable We are living in a turbulent world. On average, there are about 150,000 deaths every day because of diseases, old age, traffic accidents, and especially violence. The data from FBI indicates that in 2013, an estimated 1,163,146 violent crimes occurred in America, and somebody commits a hate crime every hour ("Violent Crime”). The fact that more and more gruesome murders happen shows that we are living in fear of violence, and this violence is unacceptable. FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program states that, “violent crime is composed of four offenses: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault,” ("Violent Crime”).
Another reason why violence is one of the biggest evils towards the American lifestyle is because members of society can be influence to part take in violent actions. The book, “Violence: Why People Do Bad Things, with Strategies to Reduce That Risk.” written by Raymond B. Flannery points out that people who commit acts of violence are those who are “…overcome with anger, fear, jealousy, and greed, they usually commit crimes on impulse (actions without thought) and are truly sorry for these acts within a short period of time.” Feelings of anger, fear, jealousy, and greed are feelings that any person can experience at any time and it becomes a threat once those people are not equipped with the right tool to manage their emotions. The more frequent acts of violence become the more used to dealing with them people become. It is not that the acts become less violent each time but instead is that people start to become adapted to the fear and insecurity caused by such
If my Native American tribe was to choose a side between the French and the English, I would pick the French. Firstly, the French have a small population in America. Therefore, they aren 't as demanding for certain supplies since there is less of them. That will leave more supplies for the Native Americans. Also, this means that they won 't take up as much land in America as the English do.
Prisons: Who are more likely to end up in prison and why? The sociological perspective I chose was the Conflict Theory Perspective. The Conflict Theory Perspective purposes that Conflict theorists would examine whatever situation at hand to see how it promotes social inequality. According to the textbook, Conflict theorists make it their mission to find the underlying existing strains that exist today amongst society.

Over the course of history, many oppressive systems have been overthrown by the people whom they belittled. Even today, here in our country that boasts the ideology of freedom, we continue to be oppressed under the false pretense of education. You might ask how that is possible because you don’t feel oppressed. Well, it is because that is how you have been conditioned to think by some of your teachers, and the education system.
With violence progressing from teachings, movies and entertainment as well as environments it's important to realize there's one of two outcomes; an endless generation of people who have been taught violence and will teach others or a drive and determination to allow yourself to be better and to influence those around them in environments for the

Violent America – assignment A “Thirty years from now I don’t think it [the NFL] will be in existence”. It comes to no one’s surprise that the contact sport American football is very violent. We have all seen the massive amount of protective gear the players wear, and in spite of this, an estimated 1,2 million football-related injuries occur every year. Many of these are of course common injuries seen in other, less violent sports, but still 5% of those 1,2 million injuries are concussions, which can affect brain function on a long term basis. However, is this major problem acknowledged in media, is there any chance in change, and what would ultimately end of the NFL?
Anti-oppressive theory utilizes user involvement and participation to break down power relations between structures and individuals by: identifying the problem areas, following the five steps outlined in the practice, and presenting service users with tangible plans to immerse themselves in the society (Wilson & Beresford, 2000). It helps us assess both opportunities and constraints in our lives. The application of your sociological imagination can enrich our life as you navigate the choices, opportunities, and barriers that we all encounter. It can explain why there might be so many opportunities or barriers in your path. Privilege, or the lack thereof, certainly makes for an easier ride or walk. Once you are able to identify that something like privilege can affect the kind of path you’re on, you may then be able to deal more effectively with what’s in front of you, or at least understand better what’s going
