Throughout the course of modern sports, there has been an abundance of noteworthy and infamous press conferences. The most memorable of these all seem to possess a similar characteristic – unfiltered, raw emotion from the individual being interviewed. In most cases, the athlete or coach answering questions acts upon these emotions in lieu of generating a positive, politically correct response. One such famous press conference I not only enjoy, but also related to as an athlete, is the legendary “Practice” rant from Allen Iverson. Fifteen years ago, on May 7, 2002, Allen Iverson sat in front of the media which covers the Philadelphia 76ers and delivered what is considered one of the most notorious sports press conferences ever. Iverson had just won the NBA scoring title the previous year and was the only bright spot on a struggling 76ers team who were barely over .500 and had just been eliminated from the first round of the playoffs. The press conference formed as an ex post facto interview to review the season and squelch any rumors that Iverson had intentions to be traded during the offseason. As a former athlete, I can relate to Iverson’s frustration. A coach can be quick to come down on your performance at practice, even though the previous night you lead the team in every category, it would be easy to get frustrated and tell the coach “come on man its practice, you weren’t complaining last night when I got you that
