The issue of prejudice and power has dramatically changed over time, it has gotten better, but it’s still not good. This past year we have read and looked at many different articles and books about prejudice and power. In Killing a Mockingbird they talk about racial power and how being of a certain race can give you advantages in life or can hurt you a lot. In Maus they talk about the prejudice and power of the Jews and Germans during World War 2, and how the Jews were mistreated and abused by the Germans and the Nazis. In our lives now there is still prejudice and power with race and religion and gender. This is also showing the power that your race can get you. In this case, the girl being white and her father and lawyer being white gives her side the power to put Tom Robinson in jail and sentenced to death. Another example of prediuce and power is in the book Maus. In Maus there is so much prejudice with them being Jewish. During World War Two in general and especially in this book they show how all of these Jews were being killed and sent to concentration camps because of their religion. This is also showing preduijce because of isolating a certain group, in this case Jews. There are also examples of power in the book Maus. They show different groups of people as different animals which represent the amount of power they hold. Jews are mice, Germans are cats, and Polish people are pigs. These animals were specifically chosen based on power, cats hold higher power than mice do, which is showing that Germans have higher power than Jews do.
