Unit 2 Discussion: Prenatal Development Readings: Chapter 3 and 4 A teratogen is any exposure in the environment such as drugs, illnesses, alcohol that can cause substantial harm to an unborn or breastfeeding baby. There are some teratogens that even if the mother was exposed to or poisoned at one point before getting pregnant can still cause harm to the unborn baby even if she is no longer exposed. Lead can be considered a teratogen as it is a toxic metal and can cause harm during the embryonic period.
Gabby Rodriguez, who is 17 years old, wrote this book to tell about how she did the “pregnancy project”. She had always grew up near poverty and grew up with siblings who were teen moms. Everyone looked at her and believed she would become a teen mom also and nothing more. Her pregnancy project was to fake a pregnancy, which was also her senior project. She used this fake pregnancy to try to make students at her school and others around her to take teen pregnancy serious and encourage those teens to make responsible decisions.
Hello class, When taking patients reproductive history as a medical assistant I will stay very professional and respectful. Some patients might not feel comfortable releasing private information to you therefore you should assure them that whatever information they disclose to you will be use only for health reason. Make the patient feel comfortable. Some of the questions that you will ask them can make the patient feel embarrassed or uncomfortable because the patient doesn 't want for her private life to be known. Depending on the patient I will try to help them understand that what am asking is not to be nosy but to help the doctor better serve them.
In 1993, a California case redefined the word 'motherhood ' when surrogacy was brought to court. The case involved Crispina and Mark Calvert and their hired surrogate mother, Anna Johnson. The couple hired Johnson after Mrs. Calvert lost her uterus, but not ovaries. When Johnson signed a $10,000 contract, fertilization took place using the Calverts’ egg and sperm. After the birth, Johnson argued for custody because she “had given birth to the child, and thus was entitled to share parental rights" (Mydans).
It can reduce unwanted pregnancies, unplanned birth, and abortions. Proper nutrition, vitamins, and minerals help to repair and rebuild cells, muscles, and bones. Lack of nutrients leads to malnutrition, a condition that can make treatment difficult. Unexpected weight loss during treatment is expected with poor nutrition. Both malnutrition and weight loss, will make it hard for the body to make healthy new cells.
The purpose of prenatal and infancy research is to examine the development growth stages and behaviors of infants from time of conception until post birth. Research methods for studying infants include naturalistic observational studies and laboratory studies (Gross, 2011). In a naturalistic study, observations of infant behaviors and prenatal development is made by researchers in a natural environment or setting. The pros of conducting a naturalistic study is that there is no manipulation.
Bioethics essay- Why prenatal testing for severe birth defects shouldn’t be denied to parents There is a belief that physicians should not recommend pre-natal testing for severe birth defects, as this might encourage parents to consider abortion. There are two potential approaches to morally argue whether I believe this belief is justified, these approaches are Deontology and Utilitarianism. In this essay I will give an account of both the deontological and utilitarian approaches. However, I shall argue against this belief on the basis that : 1 ) Deontology ignores the effects not having an abortion has on the child and the parents 2 )

Data suggests that Healthcare and Nutrition varies from a nation to another nation. Women belonging to industrialized economies have made considerable progress in accessing healthcare for themselves and their families. Having said that, it is only fair to appreciate the UN Decade for Women for making a huge difference in putting women’s issues globally and helping in representation. Even the World Health Organisation has played a very significant role in ensuring that women enjoy a good health status in the society. To throw light on the Nutrition part of the discussion, malnutrition is a huge hindrance to humanity.
The arrival of a new baby, especially the first always marks a new beginning for a mother. It comes with a lot of challenges more so if the mother is less knowledgeable about baby care. Take such as cleaning the baby for the first time, or feeding, it is not easy. The baby is still fragile and slippery and needs a special care. But if the mother is not ready for all these, or maybe, does not have any knowledge on what to do, the baby’s life might be endangered since the baby needs a special care which only the mother can give.
According to the royal society, between1930 and 2010 the world’s population grew from 2 billion to 6.8 billion ,so the Continuing population causes a consumption growth and that means the global demand will increase over the next years and growing competition for land, water and energy will increase too(Black, 2010).
