Prince among Slaves, is an historical documentary film, based on prince who had captured and taken in as a slave in American, written and produced by Andrea Kalin and narrated by Mos Def.This film retells the dramatic story of Abdurrahman Ibrahim Ibn Sori, a Muslim prince from West Africa, in Guinea. During his mid twenties his father had made Abdurrahman, the chief commander of his military, due to his great bravery. Him and his men were send to the outskirts of their lands to defeat the enemy. After several days of fighting and defeating the invaders they were heading home when they were ambushed from behind. Many were shot and hurt brutally, until they became helpless and taken captive. That were later sold to British slave traders for molasses, rice and flour. They were crowed on a ship held in shackles and chains or stacked upon each other on the upper and lower deck. However, this is not the kind of movie I take interest in; I am more about action and thriller, not much of a documentary type of person. To me this piece, was a bit annoying since it didn’t real seem like a kids friendly movie, they were no jokes or laughs in the film. Everything was just a bit to serious. However the story that the author was trying to convey, I believe it reached me. But, I am still curious to know that if they were treated so harshly how did they make it to America, shouldn’t many of them have died? Also why didn’t Isabella try freeing her others that were enslaved, and how were Isabella and her two kids treated when reaching Futa Jallon? If I could meet the author I would definitely want to ask these questions. This movie relates to all the times I learned and read about slavery, but this time I got to see it, all in action through the eyes of the Prince among Slaves, Abdulrahman Ibrahim Ibn
