Through the years of American history, one thing is certain. When anything happens that hurts our country, we will stand and fight against it united and courageous, it will be the symbol of nationalism. From the independence we fought for against the British, to the First World War, where we united against Germany to restore order in Europe. This was the first instance of the war-based economy that America had seen with the War Industries Board. However, as America left the Roaring Twenties, they were immediately beaten down by the Great Depression, leading to mass unemployment and no production ability for the numerous factories in the North. This clearly worked, seeing as the Gross National Product (GNP) rose more than 20 percent during the height of the war, which could not have occurred without the WPB. The Product Requirements Plan allows for the WPB to understand how and where to distribute the materials necessary for optimal production throughout the United States. However, the PRP was not always accurate due to the existence of ratings already being used by the WPB, causing disorder to emerge. This disorder only helped large businesses, who saw government-funded benefits even after the war. The WPB directed one of the largest shifts in US economic history that, perchance, could not have happened without the PRP and the PD-25A, which allowed the WPB to manage factories and control supplies. Before the Great Depression, the South focused heavily on agriculture, as the climate and geographical conditions were favorable for farming, not necessitating the construction of factories. These factors lead the South to not contribute as heavily to the United States economy as the North. The North, on the other hand, saw the southerners as less than themselves, especially when Southerners moved for job opportunities in the Northern factories. However, with the leadership of the WPB, a Southern Industrial Revolution occurred, costing over 17 billion dollars. focusing on military production of transport equipment, weapons, and other materials related to war such as machinery and chemicals. Although only a small percentage of General Motors’ funding went to the South, the funding allowed the South to become a part of the industrial force through World War II.
