Prohibition created organized crime groups. It took substantial organization to bootleg the extents of the alcohol people wanted. Prohibition became a failed attempt at constituting morality. Organized crime deals a lot with influence and money. People of law enforcement and politics were bribed and blackmailed.
After the American Revolution drinking began to increase this started a massive chain of events. During the 1920s many events occurred such as prohibition begins. Prohibition members from the Temperance movement wanted to stop husbands from spending all tei money on alcohol.
Instead of lowering crimes, prohibition led to a rise of organized crime. Prohibition was hard to enforce. People turned to bootlegged alcohol , the bootlegging turned into avery lucrative business as American continued to want their alcohol. Alcohol sales were controlled by street gangs and the mafia. The illegal liquor sales brought in huge profits to the gangs selling.
The law was enacted as a result of the temperance movement, which looked to reduce the negative effects of alcohol consumption on society. Prohibition was enforced by federal agents, and the production and sale of alcohol became the domain of organized crime syndicates.
A problem with prohibition was the jobs it took away, “The act also banned liquor advertising, and the use or sale of anything that might lead to its manufacture,” (Smith 133). Also, vehicles that were once used for the transportation of alcohol were to be seized or destroyed. So, people whose lives once revolved around the profits from alcohol were left with nothing. The rise of bootlegging soon began. In the early times of Prohibition, citizens did whatever they could to get around the laws, and lawmakers underestimated the lengths people would go to obtain alcohol.

In the 1920s many things happened that helped influence what America is today. With world war one recently ending and thousands of immigrants from surrounding areas flooding into the United States, things happened that shaped how America would continue to run. Two of the big things that happened during this time period was prohibition and lots of racial conflict. This period would become known as the “Roaring Twenties.”
The ongoing "War on Drugs" has been a losing battle for at least five decades. The temperance movement, later known as Prohibition, was a clash between the early twentieth-century activists and the common people, and the effect prohibition had on everyone. In 1932, President Franklin Roosevelt ran for President claiming to repeal prohibition. He won the campaign and a year later was then that the repeal became official with Utah ratifying the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Two organizations were created due to America’s love affair with ‘drink’ is the Prohibition Party and the Woman’s Christian Temperance (Carlson, p. 37). Both organizations still exist to this day. The 1920’s was an interesting time in American history. This era was also known as the roaring twenties. Although it is remembered as a fond time before the Great Depression there was also a lot of conflicts arising, Cultural conflicts in particular were at the center.
