Explain the role and activities of the project manager in relations to planning and executing the project over its life cycle. According to Haughey (n.d., par.1) "A project manager is a person who has the overall responsibility for the successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of a project." The project manager should possess unique skills such as the ability to ask in depth questions, identify hided assumptions and rectify conflicts. A crucial skill of a project manager is to measure and recognize risk that might directly or indirectly affect the success of the project throughout its lifetime (Haughey, n.d.).

Planning is vital for initiating the project on time. Many projects fail to materialize as a result of poor planning and weak assumptions (Mrsic, n.d.).
A project manager should outline a clear and precise plan which will be use to direct the control and execution of the project. However, a project plan is not written in stone and it may need to be updated over time (Mrsic, n.d.).
2. Organizing and motivating a project team
A project manager is expected to focus on the project team as they are the key resource for a successful project. The project manager is responsible for formulating a plan which aids team skills and performance in achieving the project objective and goal. It is the job of the project manager to guide and direct his team and encourage them to harness their full potential (Mrsic, n.d.).
3. Controlling time management
A project is deemed successful or failed base on if it was completed on time. Hence, essential for success is the on-time accomplishment of a project.
