This scene features Lady Macbeth speaking to herself; expressing her thoughts out loud. She speaks of killing Duncan: “The raven himself is hoarse/ That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan” (45-46). She then calls upon the spirits to assist her in murder (47-51). Shakespeare uses words with negative connotations, such as “hoarse”, “croaks”, “cruelty”, and “blood” (45-50).
Foreshadowing is a form of writing that warns you of a future event. The play Macbeth by Shakespear uses many different types of foreshadowing, I will explain the use of animals to help develop character and emotions from the audience. I start with how Shakespear characterize by using the animals to help the audience understand the true personalities of the characters, not what people believe them to be. The first example is “Approach thou like the rugged Russian bear, / The arm’d rhinoceros, or the Hyrcan tiger, / Take any shape but that, and my firm nerves / Shall never tremble” (Act 3, Scene 4, Lines 124-125) (2). This scene is explaining when Macbeth is speaking to Lady Macbeth and showing his feeling about Banquo’s ghost.
Scene 1 In the royal palace, Banquo paces and thinks about Macbeths coronation and the witches’ prophecies. The witches projected that Macbeth would be king, and that Banquo’s descendants would be kings. If the first prophecy was true, Banquo thinks, the second prophecy probably will. King Macbeth enters, he is followed by Lady Macbeth, his queen, their court.
While the witches are making their predictions about both Macbeth and Banquo, the prophecies made foreshadow many upcoming events about to occur. I do not personally believe that directly telling that something will happen, such as Macbeth becoming king, is foreshadowing, however, that combined with the predictions made about Banquo do create foreshadowing. While it is said that Macbeth will become king, it is also said that Banquo's children will become kings, and these two events contradict each other. Since it is established that Macbeth is a ruthless soldier on the battlefield, it can be assumed that he will fight for what he wants, thus foreshadowing that Macbeth may in fact kill Banquo in order to prevent Banquo's children from gaining
In Macbeth, by Shakespeare, Foreshadowing is the main literary device throughout the entire text. In the text Foreshadowing is used to give subtle hints about the rest of the text, This can send the reader in the right or wrong direction. When a text is full of foreshadowing it could be hard to understand why the hint was given at the given time and what it means. Just like diction Foreshadowing is influential to the authors purpose and how he wants the readers to interpert his or her intention of the story. The importance of foreshadowing in this specific play mainly takes part of unraveling the story, Shakespeare intentianally added in hints to intrege audiences and create a specfic view
He arranges the murder of Banquo and wants to eliminate any threat to his position as king, showing him as a tyrant and ruthless. Finally, in Act IV, Macbeth becomes a friend. In this act, Macbeth visits the three witches to seek more predictions. He demands to know more about his future and this shows his obsession with power and that he will do anything to keep the throne. During the third stage of Macbeth’s journey, Act V, Macbeth begins to lose everything he has built upon.
For me, in Shakespeare's Macbeth foreshadowing is labeled as fate and fate plays a large role. Not only do the “witches” use it to wreak havoc among the nobility in Scotland at the time, but many characters throughout the play try to change their individual fate. Macbeth does it, and so does Lady Macbeth. Then later in the play, even Malcolm, Macduff, and the other revolutionaries try to alter fate. Throughout the play of Macbeth, Shakespeare chooses to use animals to portray foreshadowing, to develop character and to get a wide variety of emotions from the audience.

Ambition and self-fulfilling prophecies two seemingly unrelated things that are actually intertwined with one another. Ambition is the thing that drives many people to do the things they love. Self-fulfilling prophecies are a direct result of ambition by the person subconsciously doing things to get their foreseen future. These things help the advancement of people’s lives. It is part of life to want to succeed and have dreams be fulfilled.
Macbeth starts off at the beginning of the play by being extremely loyal to his king and his country and this is shown in the first act where Macbeth goes off to fight for the king to kill the traitor, The Thane of Cawdor.
Have you heard of fate? Do you believe in fate? Well in William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, fate plays an important role in Macbeth’s life. Fate is something that unavoidably befalls a person.
In the play Macbeth, the lead role “Macbeth” was given a prophecy. Part of the prophecy stated that Macbeth would be king. Macbeth made decisions to make the prophecies come true, rather than believing that his actions were predetermined. Shakespeare, the author of Macbeth, probably believed that fate is never predetermined. I believe Macbeth’s actions were the cause of his own decisions, and that he did what he could to make his prophecies come true.
Scene two focuses on the current King of Scotland, King Duncan, and introduces most of the main characters in the play. King Duncan asks of the status of the war with the Irish, specifically curious of the state of his son, and generals Macbeth and Banquo, are noted as heroic for their part in battle. Soon the witches approach Macbeth and prophesy that he is to be king and he tells his wife, Lady Macbeth, who is as much of a star in this play as Macbeth himself.
They told Macbeth that he was going to be king, and told Banquo that his children were going to be king. With the knowledge that there is a possibility to become king, along with the selfish human nature, noble Macbeth was easily swayed by this prophecy. At first, Macbeth’s conscience took care of his ambitions, he was afraid he would betray the king, because he knew that he was “his kinsman and his subject” (1.7.13). However as the three witches continue to encourage Macbeth with carefully chosen words, he eventually pushes his conscience away and committed crimes that were dishonourable. Macbeth, easily controlled by his ambitions, loses his noble and heroic title in fear of losing his power.
